The ancestral castle and seat of power of House Stark and is considered to be the capital of the North. It is located in the center of the northern province of the Seven Kingdoms, on the Kingsroad that runs from Storm's End to the Wall. It is situated at the eastern edge of the Wolfswood, north of the western branch of the White Knife and Castle Cerwyn. Winterfell is south of the northern mountains and southeast of Long Lake.

The winter town, so-called because it lies mostly deserted during summer years, is where smallfolk gather in winters. Located outside the walls of Winterfell, its market square is filled with wooden stalls for merchants, while its streets are muddy and lined with rows of houses made from log and undressed stone. Less than one in five are occupied during the summer, but they fill up once winter arrives.

The Wolfswood stretches across the northwestern part of the North. It extends as far west as Sea Dragon Point and nearly as far south as Torrhen's Square. It is bounded to the north by the Bay of Ice and to the northeast by the lands of the northern mountain clans. To the east the Wolfswood reaches Winterfell and extends north and south of the seat of House Stark. The kingsroad also travels north through the eastern edge of the Wolfswood.

Pyke is an ancient stronghold, originally built on a cliff jutting out into the sea. Over time, the harsh tides have eroded the cliff, leaving the castle's towers standing on small, barren rock stacks. There is no safe anchorage at Pyke; those who wish to travel there must sail to a nearby Lordsport.

Great Wyk is the largest of the islands that make up the Iron Islands. Some of the noble houses found upon the island include House Merlyn, House Sparr, House Goodbrother, and House Farwynd. Hammerhorn, the seat of the main line of House Goodbrother, is located in the Hardstone Hills. The Merlyns reside in Pebbleton, while the Farwynds live at Sealskin Point.

The ironborn consider Old Wyk to be the holiest of all the Iron Islands. The Grey King slew a legendary sea dragon, Nagga, upon its shores, and it is the place where kingsmoots took place for thousand of years. It is on Old Wyk where the First Men found the Seastone Chair, the traditional throne of the Iron Islands.
Windy hills and cruel black mountains make up much of Old Wyk, and Nagga's hill is located on it.

Second in size only to Great Wyk, Harlaw is distinguished from the other islands for being both the wealthiest and most densely populated. It is a day's sail from Pyke. The Harlaw is the seat of House Harlaw that reigns supreme on the island, one of the only families that rivals the Greyjoys in strength and influence.

The current seat of House Hoare, Fairmarket is a town in the riverlands on the Blue Fork of the Trident. It is located mostly on the southern shore of the Blue Fork, but it has a wooden bridge that spans the river. Fairmarket is modestly sized and is five days travel from the Whispering Wood.

The ancestral seat of House Tully. While not especially large, Riverrun is a strong three-sided castle. It is bordered on two sides by rivers, the third side (the west) facing a massive manmade ditch. In times of danger, the sluice gates can be opened, filling a wide moat and leaving Riverrun surrounded on three sides by water.

The Twins, sometimes known as the Crossing, is the seat of House Frey in the northern Riverlands. It is a fortified crossing of the Green Fork of the Trident and consists of two identical castles and a tower in the middle of their bridge. It is the only crossing point over the Green Fork for hundreds of miles in either direction, from the North to the western Riverlands. It lies directly athwart the main route from Winterfell to Riverrun.

A major port city, on the coast of the Vale of Arryn, southeast of the Eyrie and near to the beginning of the Bay of Crabs. It is the largest city in the Vale, but is much smaller than Oldtown and King's Landing. Gulltown is an important port and portal to the Vale, its sheltered harbor offering anchorage to ships traveling from King's Landing to Braavos or the North.

The Three Sisters are a group of three islands. Sweetsister, Longsister, and Littlesister - found in the Bite, located south of White Harbor. The islands owe loose allegiance to House Arryn of the Vale. The islands are considered dens of avarice and sin by septons. Men from the Three Sisters are known as "Sistermen." It is known for sister's stew, a thick creamy white seafood stew.

Lannisport is a walled city along the coast of the Sunset Sea where the river road, gold road, and the sea road meet, just to the west lies Casterly Rock. It is one of the major ports of the Seven Kingdoms and the largest city in the Westerlands. Lannisport is smaller than King's Landing or Oldtown, but larger than Gulltown or White Harbor. House Lannister anchors its fleet in its harbor. The city is renowned for its goldwork.

It guards the one large pass through the mountains that allows direct travel between the Westerlands and the Riverlands to the west. It is generally held that in order to attack the Westerlands from the east, one must take the Golden Tooth to have a secure passage.

The citadel of Dragonstone is wrought all of black stone, its towers carved into the shapes of dragons, and a thousand gargoyles carved into various shapes serve as brooding crenellations along the three curtain walls. The design of the castle is very dragon-oriented. Small dragons frame gates and dragon claws hold torches. A pair of great wings cover the armory and smithy, and tails form archways and staircases.

Highgarden is the seat of House Tyrell, regional capital of the Reach and the heart of chivalry in the Seven Kingdoms. It lies on the Mander and there the Ocean Road meets the Roseroad, making it an important crossroads. The tiered-walled castle has groves and fountains, shady courtyards, and marble colonnades. It is filled with singers, pipers, fiddlers and harpers. There are fields of golden roses that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Oldtown is one of the largest cities in Westeros and is by far the oldest, built by the First Men before the Andal invasion. The city is located in the south-west of the Reach, at the mouth of the river Honeywine where it opens onto Whispering Sound and the Sunset Sea beyond. It is the western terminus of the Roseroad from Highgarden and King's Landing. House Hightower have their seat at the Hightower in Oldtown. The city also hosts the Citadel.

The Arbor is an island off the southwestern-most part of Westeros, ruled by House Redwyne. It is considered part of the Reach, the mainland part of which it is separated from by the Redwyne Straits. The port town of Ryamsport is most likely located on the Arbor. The Arbor is known for making the best wine in Westeros, especially a terrific red wine and a gold wine.

Storm's End is the seat of House Baratheon along Shipbreaker Bay in the Stormlands. One of the strongest castles in the Seven Kingdoms. Storm's End is surrounded by a massive outer curtain wall, one hundred feet high and forty feet thick on its thinnest side and nearly eighty feet thick on its seaward side. It is composed of a double course of stones with an inner core of sand and rubble.

Sunspear is the ancient stronghold of House Martell and the capital of Dorne. It is located on the far southeastern coast of Westeros and is surrounded on three sides by the sea. Sunspear is a walled settlement, protected by three massive winding walls encircling one another. Entry to the city is by means of the Threefold Gate, where the gates are lined up one behind the other allowing straight passage, leading all the way up to the Old Palace.

There's a saying in Dorne that goes "Half of the Ullers are half-mad, and the other half are worse." Hellholt is the seat of House Uller. It is located in Dorne, in the deep sands beyond the Vaith, next to the river Brimstone. The Hellholt has been named after an event in which unwelcome visitors to the castle were locked up and burned to death.
